Spring Markets in Melbourne

06-Oct-2017

Nothing says Spring more than a morning spent browsing Melbourne’s Markets. From fresh organic produce to handmade arts and crafts, we have gathered the best markets of Bayside and beyond for you to enjoy.

First pick in the local Bayside community is The Bayside Farmers Markets. Held on the third Saturday of every month, there is an abundance of fresh local produce to fill the pantry. Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Hampton and Sandringham, all proceeds are put towards various projects, such as purchasing swags for the homeless or providing sanitation for villages in the third world.
Location: Trey Bit Reserve, Sandringham Time: 8am – 1pm.

As you head around the bay, St Kilda provides multiple market options. Why not visit them all?

The Veg Out Farmers Market is held on the first Saturday of every month. Award winning farmers from across Victoria will sell their very own produce direct to you. This plastic bag free market provides seasonal organic fruit and veg, free range eggs, meats, oils, honey, jams, chutneys, spices, cheese… you name it, you will find it here!
Location: Peanut Farm Reserve, St Kilda Time: 8.30am – 1pm

The St Kilda Esplanade Market has been in full swing every Sunday since December 1970. Selling quality handmade arts and crafts, some stallholders love this iconic market so much they have been there from the beginning, forty-seven years ago!
Location: next to Luna Park, between Acland St and Fitzroy St, St Kilda Time: 10am onwards.

Make your way further towards the city and you will reach the South Melbourne Markets. An amazing atmosphere where people come to purchase fresh produce, drink delicious coffee, eat fresh seafoods and discover talented local traders. You might even find a spare few minutes for a haircut at the barbers or a quick manicure at the nail salon.
Location: Corner of Coventry and Cecil Streets, South Melbourne Time: Every Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun 8am – 4pm.

Sunday morning at the Arts Centre Lawn is filled with local artisans showcasing their unique handmade treasures. Stall holders of the Arts Centre Market rotate positions on a weekly basis, so make sure you have a good look around.
Location: Art’s Centre Melbourne (short walk across Flinders Street Bridge) Time: 10am – 4pm

Head back across the Flinders Street Bridge and you will come to Federation Square. Each Saturday the city’s largest book market is held, with over 5,000 new and pre-loved titles. With everything from literature, art and history to gardening, travel and kids stories, if you have a love for reading this is the place to be.
Location: The Atrium Federation Square Time: 11am – 5pm.

Lastly, but most importantly, jump on a tram that will take you to the top of Elizabeth Street. Here you will come across Queen Victoria Market where you can wander the heritage market sheds for an authentic local experience. Discover the large variety of jewellery clothing and souvenirs. Taste the atmosphere of the meat, fish and deli halls, where you can find some delicious produce. If you feel slightly lost, jump on the Ultimate Foodie Tour, a ninety-minute small group walking tour for food lovers.
Location: Queen Victoria Market is bounded by Peel, Franklin, Victoria & Elizabeth Streets, Melbourne Time: Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun – 6am onwards.
