1. Summer Night Markets
The Queen Victoria Summer Night Market is a must do this January, opening every Wednesday from 5 – 10pm. Not only is there free live music and entertainment, there is an array of global street food and vintage shopping opportunities. The atmosphere is certainly one to experience!

How to get there? Hop on the train at Middle Brighton and head towards Flinders Street. You can find the train timetable here. Then take the 19, 57 or 59 tram from Flinders Street along Elizabeth Street to Stop 7. For more information on the market location and directions click here. The South Melbourne Night Market is running from 5.30pm every Thursday night. This year it brings delicious street food and permanent market stalls open for longer hours. Of course, there is fantastic music and entertainment spread across four stages! With free rooftop parking, car is the best way to travel from Sandringham and Brighton.

2. The Australian Open 
If you are in Melbourne between the 16th and the 29th January, the Australian Open is a must do! Head into Melbourne Park at the beginning of the tournament with a ground pass in hope to catch the hottest tennis stars smashing the competition on the outdoor courts! 

The Australian Open Festival provides three terraces dedicated to Melbourne’s best food and drink, an awesome line up of bands and artists, and plenty of activities from face-painting to massages and beauty pampering. This will give any non-tennis fans a reason to love the Australian Open!

3. Moonlight Cinemas
The Royal Botanical Gardens Moonlight Cinema is showing a large range of advanced screenings and new releases from 7pm every Monday night. Pack a picnic to enjoy throughout the movie or grab a snack at the Moonlight food truck and fully licenced bar. Do not fear if you are limited on picnic rugs or comfy deck chairs to sit on… Gold Grass tickets are available!

The best way to travel to the botanical Gardens is to take the train towards Flinders Street, hopping off at South Yarra. Then take the no. 8 tram to Hope Street Stop 23. You can find the train timetable here. Make sure you have your Myki ticket for all public transport!

4. Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes
Take a stroll and visit Melbourne’s most iconic beach, located 1km from Caroline Serviced Apartments Brighton!  Your stay would not be complete without a picture in front of your favourite beach box design. The 82 distinctive bathing boxes remain almost unchanged since they were built over a century ago.

If the sun is shining take a dip in the refreshing water! The beach is patrolled by volunteer lifesavers on weekends and public holidays this January from 12-noon to 6pm.  Remember to only swim on patrolled beaches and swim BETWEEN THE FLAGS!

5. Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium 
There is fun for the whole family with plenty of marine life to explore at the Melbourne Sea Life Aquarium! There are 12 different habitat zones to journey through this January. Make sure you check the daily schedule to see what is going on! To purchase tickets, click here
