Melbourne is spoilt for choice when it comes to delicious food and wine. The team at Caroline & Sandy Hill have put together a collection for you to explore.
For a picturesque, boutique experience in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula, Panton Vineyard’s cellar door is perfect. Panton showcases premium single vineyard wines and offers local produce platters. Panton is open select weekends, make sure you double check their opening hours.
Foxey’s Hangout is a small and informal venue, best suited to groups of two or four. Make sure to arrive before midday to ensure you get a table! Winemaker and qualified chef, Tony Lee, curates a variety of $12 plates to complement the local wines, with many dishes changing seasonally.
Jackalope has all sorts of dining options for you to explore. Whether it be casual all-day dining and wine tasting at Rare Hare & the Cellar Door, fine dining at Doot Doot Doot or immersing your tastebuds in the cocktail lounge that is Flagerdoot.
If you would prefer to venture north of Melbourne to the Yarra Valley, there is a whole lot more to explore.
Start your day at Coombe Cellar Door for a high-tea style breakfast with local sparkling wine and warm pastries. ‘Melba's Morning Tea’ is available from 9:30am every Saturday and Sunday. Coombe Farm also has a wonderful selection of wines from the region which combines the provenance and heritage of the Coombe and Melba Estates with its cool climate Yarra Valley fruit, to create small batch wines of exquisite complexity.
Meletos, an abandoned collection of century old farm buildings, houses a regional café and provedore. You can visit their neighbours Detour Beer Co., a family-owned microbrewery founded in an old brick dairy, which produces beautiful hand-crafted ales on-site.
For something a little bit different and for the non-wine lovers, the Four Pillars Gin Distillery Door located in Healesville is a great option. Drop in and try a unique gin tasting which includes cask and shiraz gins created on site.
